Maintenance of Rubber Tracks

If you have made the decision to purchase McLaren’s rubber tracks, you will experience great benefits. Improved performance due to the SpoolRite Belting technology is guaranteed. Its design, which features a continous belt without a single joint connection or overlapping areas, will improve the work of any vehicle!

There is only one thing you need to consider and that is rubber tracks maintenance. Nothing can keep your tracks in top shape better than following certain guidelines. Always remember that negligence leads to poor performance, as the condition of the tracks will deteriorate over time. A regular routine to check on how tracks are stored and kept will significantly prolong their life and contribute a great deal to peace of mind. There are few maintenance rules you can follow:

  • Always have the right tracks – if there is one thing that guarantees optimal performance for your machine, no matter what type of work it is involved in, it is having the right tracks equipped. A lot of rubber tracks operate differently on different terrains, so it pays to acquire a product for the surface your machine is going to work on. For instance, having tracks with deeper tread pattern is greatly going to improve machine performance on snow and rocky terrains. Productive work is done with the right type of tracks only.
  • Inspect the tracks upon delivery – it is never a good thing to see that the rubber tracks that just arrived for you have some type of damage or malformation. Other than physical imperfections, there could also be a mistake with the wrong size of tracks. In order to ensure that is not the case, you should inspect the tracks you receive. Even though we maintain high standards at McLaren Industries when it comes to shipping, we still advise all of our clients to check the tracks they receive just in case.
  • Weight capacity and tension – one of the most common problems with rubber tracks is incorrect use through putting more stress on the vehicle by adding weight or maintaining the incorrect tension. These are two factors that can affect your tracks in a negative way. Check out the manufacturer’s recommendations in that regard and make sure you follow them to prolong the life of your rubber tracks.
  • Operate with the machine carefully – operating the machine in such a way that will preserve the rubber tracks it is equipped with is essential. Doughnut-type turns should be reduced to minimum, as they are one maneuver that usually puts a lot of stress on the tracks. In addition to that, zero degree turns should be avoided, especially when the machine is operated on flat surfaces. Turning at high speed also causes a lot of wear and tear to the tracks. The slower the work and the wider the angle at which turns are made, the better for the tracks.
  • Check out the undercarriage often – the performance of rubber tracks is directly linked to undercarriage components. Do not delay replacing components that show signs of failure. In particular, you should be on the lookout for idlers, rollers and sprockets, as these are the most likely candidates for regular change. If such components are worn out or damaged, chances are they may negatively affect the condition of the rubber tracks and contribute to their wear and ineffective work.
  • Cleaning the tracks between uses – never forget to give the rubber tracks a good clean up after each use. Whenever the machine operates, the tracks collect a great deal of dust, dirt, debris, mud and all kinds of spoils. It is best if all that is cleaned after each use, as that prevents the potential damage and accumulation of the spoils. The cleaner the tracks are, the better they operate.
  • Provide adequate storage – whenever the rubber tracks are off the vehicle, they should be stored properly. A cool dry place is the best option for storage of such equipment. Avoid putting the tracks in direct sunlight, as well as leaving them in a wet damp area.
  • Run maintenance checks on both tracks – never assume that just because one of the tracks is doing fine, the same is valid for the other one. Both of the rubber tracks experience wear and tear, so it is obvious they should both undergo maintenance checks to guarantee they are performing well.
All of these maintenance tips ensure that the rubber tracks you have acquired for your vehicle remain in top condition. Do follow each of them to guarantee best results.
