Finding the Right Tracks for your Excavator

If you want your mini excavator to perform superbly on the job, you need to ensure that it is equipped with the right tracks. Rubber tracks have proven their worth time and time again when it comes to work with mini excavators. They are an outstanding choice, but still one that you should carefully research.

Whenever the rubber tracks of your excavator need replacement with a new set, you should aim to select the best product on the market. That is especially the case if the previous tracks have malfunctioned or they have been damaged during construction work. In order to ensure that the mini excavator is performing as best as possible, it is wise to carefully pick the right rubber tracks. If you are unsure what to look for, here are few guidelines to help you.

  • Track size matters most – getting the right size rubber tracks is the most important thing to keep in mind. Equipping the machine with too small or too large tracks will not lead to anything good. Even if the excavator is able to operate, it is going to perform poorly. Apart from that, there is real danger for the machine, as the wrong size of tracks will in fact excessively wear out the undercarriage. Even top-quality rubber tracks will not work well, if they are not of the right size for the particular machine they are equipped on. Be sure to note the size determined by manufacturer and refer to it whenever you have to replace the tracks. Also make sure that your track supplier doesn’t make a mistake. Consult with a professional if you have to.
  • Base track choice on application – the next very important thing to consider when selecting your set of rubber tracks is the job that they will be used on. It is one thing running the excavator on pavement or concrete, but quite a different story when work takes place in a scrap yard for example. The main thing to consider here is the tread of the rubber tracks you want. Normally you need deeper tread patterns for off-road work, while in order to prevent rubber marks on pavement and concrete, you need to look at non-marking options.
  • Go with quality – picking the right rubber tracks often comes down to selecting the best design. A top-tier product will last long on the job, even when work conditions are tough and there are risks involved. Look for premium tracks designed with enough layers of rubber compound and avoid cheap alternatives that come with less rubber. The reason why it is so important to look for quality is because tested and proven rubber formulas provide 2 times longer work life of the tracks. Rubber compound used is not the only characteristic that you should monitor. Cabling technology is just as important, and you will do best if you go with a single continuous steel belt. That will minimize the risk of track break and other damage.
  • Consider the price – price is important, but it should not be a leading factor for your choice of rubber tracks. As it should be expected, low cost of tracks usually comes with poor quality, which is hardly going to pay off in the long run. More expensive tracks come with better design and have superior life expectancy. That makes them a solid investment and a logical choice, even if you are working on a tight budget. Look at rubber tracks as an investment you want to make in order to ensure the job is done right and on time. Downtime due to poor quality cheap tracks is less than an ideal situation to find yourself in.
  • Look for a well-reputed supplier – since you will be relying on rubber tracks to see you through the successful completion of any job, it pays to go with a name that has proven reputation. Ask around and see what other companies think of a certain brand and their products. Don’t forget about warranty – both period and how the manufacturer handles potential claims.
There is much that you need to consider when buying rubber tracks. It is important to take your time and do a proper research, as that guarantees you get the best product for your machine.
